Assertionnism art style master Rene Robles dies aged 71 – Manila Bulletin

Famous Filipino painter Ireneo “Rene” Robles passed away on September 13, 2021 at the age of 71.

Born April 12, 1950 in Lucena City, Quezon Province, René was a famous artist who began his journey in the 1970s. He honed his creative skills by pursuing Fine Arts at Sto University. Thomas. He later explored international art studies in New York at the Arts Students League in 1989 and at the National Academy of Design School of Fine Arts in 1990.

Throughout his career, René has produced more than 70 solo exhibitions, presented all over the world, from Asian countries and the United States to the European continent. But for the local and international art scene, the Filipino painter will be remembered as a master of assertionism, an artistic movement that he initiated. Founded in New Jersey, USA, in 1986, Rene’s Assertionism style features “an art that has the power to assert, transform and transcend.”

“His new assertionist art, which has penetrated various jury shows with prizes and critical acclaim, is also the basis of the advanced artistic training he has developed for professional artists – techniques and innovative approach to painting” , according to his website. “It has evolved into a new artistic movement – quite ahead of its time – representing a more developed aesthetic, a daring style and a strong and unique composition”

His masterpieces are in the private collections of former King Juan Carlos of Spain and former US President Bill Clinton. Among his latest exhibition was “Assertionism: The Art of René Robles”, which took place in early 2021. Currently, René is in the process of being approved to be considered a candidate for the Order of the national artist, the highest honor awarded to Filipino artists. .
