Art Briles had apparently returned to the college football ranks after being hired last week from Grambling State University. The former Baylor head coach was set to be the Tigers’ next offensive coordinator, joining Hue Jackson’s staff in Louisiana.
Unfortunately, that stint as an OC didn’t last long.
News broke on Monday that Briles would be stepping down from his post just days after the initial hire amid immediate backlash from fans and the media.

For those who have forgotten, Briles coached at Baylor between 2008 and 2015, winning 10 or more games on four occasions. He once led the Baylor Bears to three consecutive top-15 finishes. In his eight seasons in the Big XII, the Bears won 65 games, reaching second place in the AP Poll in 2015.
This 2015 season would be Briles’ last, however, after a school-wide sex scandal made national headlines. During the head coach’s reign, it emerged that there were several cover-ups surrounding Baylor football players and alleged sexual assaults on campus.
Unsurprisingly, Briles was fired.
Those feelings of disdain from the world of college football have not abated, as evidenced by his immediate resignation to Grambling State.
Few people thought this hire was a good idea from the start, so there was an obvious response of “you said it” comments from members of the media following Monday’s news.
I mean, hiring a man who helped silence the voices of victims of sexual abuse for the betterment of a football program is not something people are just going to sweep under the rug. And putting him back in a similar position of power doesn’t seem like the smartest move.
Who could have seen it coming?
Social media reacts to news of Art Briles’ abrupt resignation

I wonder when people will realize that it’s never going to be a good idea to hire Art Briles?
On behalf of this survivor, thank you to everyone keeping up the pressure. In the world of sports and sexual violence, we don’t see many wins, but that counts as one. #SetTheExpectation https://t.co/aQ825JEq6V
