Sword Art Online is in earnest in 2022, so fans are freaking out

Sword art online is considered one of the best animated series of all time, and its impact on the isekai genre cannot be overstated. Kirito remains a mainstay within the fandom, and of course the same can be said of Asuna. After all their time together Sword art online explores the couple with light new novels, manga volumes and movies. And in the wake of the new year, well – Sword art online fans watch both and their series very hard.

And why, you might ask? Well, it all has to do with 2022. If you didn’t know, the original series was set in 2022, so fans are rightfully freaking out.

All the conversation flowed naturally as the New Year dawned yesterday. As midnight struck in 2021, a new year was greeted with great hope for a better 2022. But if you are a fan of Sword art online, you know this year has already been missed. In the anime, 2022 marked the beginning of Kirito’s hero quest, and it changed his life for good.

If you look back Sword art online, 2022 marked the start of the NerveGear release in May after the release of sophisticated VR technology. In August, the Sword art online the game entered its closed beta ahead of the game’s full launch in November. And shortly after the game’s launch, Kirito and 10,000 players were trapped inside Sword art online following a cyberattack. Over 200 people died that day and more would follow, as deceased players in the game would follow in real life.

Obviously, 2022 has been a crazy year in the Sword art online universe, but it did not go south until November arrived. At first, things looked good as new VR technology went public and the future of gaming broadened its horizons. In our real world, the same can be said thanks to innovations from Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft. But when it comes to VR, well, we’re far from ready to launch a console as complicated as the NerveGear. Honestly, this is probably for the best considering how the technology has been used in Sword art online. So if you are determined to explore VR this year, can we recommend the Oculus or the HTC Vive.
